Preparations for New Year's Eve in Hamburg are in full swing! For the first time this year, ZDF will broadcast the big New Year's Eve event not in Berlin, but directly in the Speicherstadt and Hafencity. This event will take place on December 31st from 8:15 p.m. and will be celebrated with 12,000 guests, numerous music acts and a spectacular fireworks display over the Elbe MOPO reported.
But the anticipation is overshadowed by controversy. The event agency Morgenwelt, which is responsible for the organization, assures that the celebrations will remain cost-neutral for the taxpayer. The event is financed through ticket sales, catering and sponsorship. However, a written small inquiry from the Left shows that Hamburg Marketing GmbH (HMG) paid 400,000 euros net to the organizer. This payment is considered controversial and has already caused protests because the Left sees public money flowing “through the back door”.
