NXP moves to Bahrenfeld: 800 employees start a new era!

The Hamburg semiconductor company NXP has announced the big adventure: a move to Bahrenfeld! After over 100 years in Lokstedt, where it all began with an electron tube factory in 1924, big changes are now coming. The move is planned for the beginning of 2031, during which more than 800 employees will move into their new place in a state-of-the-art corporate headquarters. According to the Eimsbüttel News NXP will move into the former Selgros hall on Tasköprüstrasse.

What is special about this move? The new location will not only provide a headquarters for research, development, testing and marketing in the automotive, industrial and IoT sectors, but will also aim to combine the latest technologies in an urban district. An innovation center was opened in Lokstedt in autumn 2022, and next year there will even be another for quantum computers - a juicy place for technology enthusiasts!

An extensive project

The Selgros area in Bahrenfeld is a comprehensive project Captiva Investment Management and covers an impressive 2.5 hectares. Not only offices and laboratories are being built here, but also at least 450 apartments, which makes the area equally attractive for future NXP employees and residents. “There’s something going on!” One could say, because negotiations about the location of NXP are already underway, and construction on the 400 million euro project is scheduled to start in 2026. Before construction work begins, up to 650 refugees will be accommodated in the hall that is currently being used.

The Hamburg real estate group Captiva is responsible for the conversion concept, while the implementation and leasing to NXP are being handled by Aug. Prien Project Development. An exciting interplay between living, working and innovative technologies is being created here that is worth observing.

A look into the future

With the decision to move to Bahrenfeld, NXP clearly shows that they are pursuing a future-oriented corporate philosophy. The new innovation center will not only support existing employees, but also attract new talent. Hamburg is thus further solidifying itself as an important location for the semiconductor industry and remains a hotspot for technological developments.

In the coming years we can look forward to seeing how the area develops. One thing is certain: NXP brings a breath of fresh air into the Hamburg technology world and will certainly continue to be popular.
