Pope Leo XIV: Historic visit to Lebanon starts on Sunday!

What is the news from faraway Lebanon? The visit of Pope Leo XIV is imminent and preparations are in full swing. On Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 9:20 a.m. at the prayer meeting at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Beirut, the Pope will give his first sign of solidarity with the region's rich religious history. It will be an exciting day, because at 10:20 a.m. an Orthodox service, the so-called “Divine Liturgy,” will take place in the Patriarchal Church of St. George for the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle. Finally, at 5:40 p.m., the Pope will meet representatives of the authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps, which perfectly rounds off the carefully planned agenda. Cathedral radio reports that visitors will be looking forward to the Pope's messages with high expectations.

The coming days also promise exciting events. On Monday, December 1, the Pope will pray at the tomb of Saint Charbel Maklūf in the Monastery of San Maroun at 9:40 a.m. There will then be a meeting at 11:10 a.m. with bishops, priests and religious at the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa. The day will be completed by an ecumenical and interreligious meeting in Martyrs' Square in Beirut at 3:50 p.m., followed by a social gathering with young people at 5:40 p.m. in the square in front of the Maronite Patriarchate in Bkerké.

The end of the visit

On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Pope will address issues of health and commemoration. At 8:20 a.m. he will visit the “De la Croix” hospital in Jal ed Dib to speak to both staff and patients. Later, at 9:20 a.m., a silent prayer at the site of the explosion in Beirut port will honor the memory of the victims of the tragedy. The Holy Mass at the “Beirut Waterfront” at 10:20 a.m. will be another highlight of the day. Finally, a farewell ceremony will take place at Beirut International Airport at 12:45 p.m. These touching moments are of great importance not only for the believers but also for the entire population.

The call for a currency on the move

These financial movements can have an impact on many countries and their markets and are an exciting topic, especially in times of economic uncertainty. And as the pope carefully crafts his trip, it remains to be seen what messages will take on both spiritual and economic dimensions.
