Dramatic city derby: Hamburg Towers suffer bitter setback!
In an exciting week for the Hamburg Towers junior teams, there were mixed results over the weekend. The NBBL team lost to the NTSV Wildcats 71:78 in the city derby, while the JBBL suffered their first defeat of the season in a close game against the EWE Basket Juniors. The game ended with 85:91 and it remains to be seen how Coach Marie's boys will perform in the coming games, especially after the Christmas break.
The NBBL game started promisingly as the Towers took a 6-0 lead. But over the course of the first quarter the team lost track and had to go into halftime with a 30:40 deficit. However, the reaction after the break was impressive. In the third quarter the Towers were able to turn the game around and bring the tension back. But the mistakes piled up in the final quarter: too many rebounds and a waning intensity ultimately led to defeat. It remains to be hoped that the next opportunity for redemption is against the city rival.
JBBL and SC Rist Wedel
In the JBBL game, Danny Egbe was the most noticeable player, shining with strong individual actions. Nevertheless, the team only found its rhythm at times. In particular, the physical superiority under the basket was not used efficiently enough. A thrilling finish couldn't be turned into an equalizer; the decisive throw was missed.
The game was different for SC Rist Wedel, who won against BG Bitterfeld-Sandersdorf-Wolfen 06 with 74:65. The premiere of the new mascot “Woolson vom Steinberg” was particularly outstanding, as it created a great atmosphere. After the game, coach Hamed Attarbashi spoke of an emotional victory. SC Rist Wedel had some difficulties at the beginning, but were able to find their way into the game better defensively. The return of Janne Müller, who was highlighted as important to the team, shows the depth and strength of the squad.
Young talent and training facilities
The Hamburg Towers e.V., an important player in Hamburg basketball, has several youth teams that are led by different coaches. Particularly worth mentioning are the trainers who look after the various teams, including Marie, Yannick, and Pascal. The Towers' training facilities are spread across Hamburg: from Fährstrasse to Krieterstrasse to Bostelbeker Damm. All of these places offer the young talents the perfect opportunity to develop their skills and possibly become big basketball stars one day.
With the upcoming games and the preparation for the second half of the season, it will be exciting to see how the Towers will develop further. Success in the youth sector is crucial for the future and the Hamburg basketball landscape could only benefit from these emerging talents.
