Low German city tour in Heide: A cultural experience for everyone!

No reason to stay at home - that's what the Tellingstedt rural women's association thought and quickly organized a second date for a Low German city tour in Heide. Many interested people gathered at the St. Georg fountain, which stands charmingly on the Südermarkt, to go on a discovery tour with city guide Günter Lenkeit. The fountain and the St. Jürgen Church were just some of the stations that were visited.

The impressive town hall was also a highlight on the route. What was surprising for many was the visit to the roof where bee colonies are kept. This tour not only offered insights into the historical architecture, but also into the importance of the city's nature. There was also interesting information about the development of the old heath on the south side of the market square.

Klaus Groth and Low German culture

Another important item on the agenda was the Klaus Groth Museum, which is located in Lüttenheid, a historic old town district. The life and work of the well-known local poet Klaus Groth is honored in detail here. Groth, who achieved fame throughout Europe in the 19th century with his Low German volume of poetry “Quickborn,” has had a significant influence on literature in his region. His work made Low German the language of culture and literature, and he was a pioneer of newer Low German literature.

After a detailed exploration of the museum, which reopened on March 23, 2023 after extensive renovation work, the participants had the opportunity to relax with drinks and snacks in Sigrun Voss' Lambrecht hat shop. The traditional shop, which has existed since 1907, has expanded its range and now offers certified sun hats. When trying on hats, numerous rural women found models that fit their head sizes perfectly.

Insight into history

Klaus Groth, born on April 24, 1819 in Lüttenheid, was not only a talented author, but also an important literary scholar at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. He had close contacts with prominent personalities of his time, including the composer Johannes Brahms and the writer Theodor Storm. Groth's life's work, especially "Quickborn", managed to reach and inspire both middle-class and rural circles in Schleswig-Holstein.

The city of Heide has invested in the renovation of the museum so that Groth's important cultural impact remains alive. With modern multimedia elements, such as B. listening stations and interactive media tables, visitors can immerse themselves in his world. A highlight is the interactive correspondence, which provides insights into his life and relationships.

Anyone who is interested in Low German culture or would simply like to take a different look at Heide should not miss the opportunity. The “Lüttenheid Museum Island” traditionally has a good reputation and is best experienced for yourself.

For those who want to learn more about Klaus Groth and his literary achievements, the Klaus Groth Museum is the perfect place. It is not only a window into the past, but also a vibrant place where culture and history come together in a wonderful way.

Information about opening times and admission prices can be found directly on the city of Heide's website, and guided tours and activities for families and students are also offered. All interested visitors are advised to find out about the next events in good time.
