Kaifu-Gymnasium shines as a national winner in the history competition!

Eimsbüttel, Deutschland - The Kaifu-Gymnasium in Hamburg has secured the national victory in the history competition of the Federal President. This was celebrated on Thursday at a festive award ceremony in the Körber Forum. As part of the competition, which aims to motivate young people for historical research, several outstanding work was awarded. The student Adele Dittrich, who was awarded for the second time, received a state prize for her impressive work through emigration to America in the 19th century. Her tutor Jörn Priebe praised the independent and scientific approach of Dittrich, who is enthusiastic about history research.

A total of 42 works were awarded, with a large part of the submitted contributions dealing with the topics of flight, migration and the former inner German border. "We have been experiencing the highest participation from Hamburg for 30 years," said Eva Nemela from the Körber Foundation and referred to the topicality of the topic. In her speech, Senator Ksenija Bekeris emphasized the importance of competition as a contribution to social commitment.

The history competition is organized every two years by the Körber Foundation. In the current round, which bears the topic "Up to here and not further! This is the most successful round of competition in three decades, and most of the work comes from the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg. The participants were supported by over 900 tutor: inside who were advisable.

Many of the submitted work not only deal with German history, but also expand the horizon by involving borderline experiences in countries such as Hungary, South Korea and South American countries. It is a central concern of the contributions to show that borders not only represent geographical lines, but can also have social-ethical, political-legal or material dimensions. Limits often act as barriers, but also as rooms of encounter and exchange.

The next edition of the competition begins in September 2026 and promises with topics that repeatedly stimulate thought to become another chapter of exciting historical research for the young generation. For the participants there is also the possibility to score at the federal level. For the 250 national winners, the chance of one of the 50 coveted federal prices that will be presented on November 11, 2025 in Bellevue Castle in Berlin by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The importance of such competitions lies not only in the promotion of historical knowledge, but also in strengthening social awareness and commitment to young people. This is impressively underlined by the lively participation and the commitment of the students.
