Hamburger Kammerspiele: Dramatic season full of hope and diversity!

The Hamburger Kammerspiele recently presented its program for the coming 2025/26 season, and the anticipation is already palpable. Director Axel Schneider and chief dramaturge Anja Del Caro took the audience on a journey through the planned plays, which deal with current social challenges. She addresses topics such as war, anti-Semitism and sexual violence, but does not want to lose sight of the hope and entertainment in the pieces. According to the Eimsbüttel News the program is sure to touch some hearts.

The season begins with the legal drama “She says. He says”, based on the work by Ferdinand von Schirach. The conflict between different statements following an accusation of sexual violence is highlighted here. The leading actresses in this major production offer the audience an intensive examination of the topic. The piece will be performed from September 6, 2025 to November 27, 2025, and is a direct counterpoint to the performance of “Prima Facie,” which reflects the perspective of the sexual assault victim, such as the Hamburg Chamber Games reported.

Attention to Jewish history

Another highlight of the coming season is the premiere of the piece “Next Year Bornplatz Synagogue” by Axel Schneider, which will take place at the end of September. This piece deals with the eventful history of a Jewish family and the important Bornplatz synagogue in the Grindelviertel. In addition, the play “Mama Odessa”, based on the novel by Maxim Biller, brings the life of a Russian-Jewish family to the stage. Both of these productions promise to be dramatic and poignant.

But that's not all: in winter, theatergoers can look forward to the humorous series “The Crime Scene Cleaner,” which consists of four 20-minute episodes with different directors. The children's play “Rico, Oskar and the Deep Shadows” based on the novel by Andreas Steinhöfel will also be brought into the spotlight in winter.

A look outside the box

In order to expand the framework for the Hamburger Kammerspiele, the ATT 2025 theater festival should also be mentioned here, which will take place from June 11th to 21st, 2025. Here, visitors can experience the premiere of eleven new plays, including stories about not belonging, presented by various ensembles, including the Deutsches Theater and the RambaZamba Theater Berlin. This festival not only shows the creative diversity of the theater landscape, but also offers the opportunity to address issues that affect society.

Advance ticket sales for the Hamburger Kammerspiele begin at the beginning of July, and with a varied program in sight, there is no reason not to secure the best seats early. Come by and be surprised at what our own theater landscape has to offer!
