St. Pauli in the transfer shock: Guilavogui surprisingly returns to France!
A shock for FC St. Pauli fans: top striker Morgan Guilavogui (27) is moving back to RC Lens. After the neighborhood club loaned the attacker from Lens last season, the French club has now exercised its “right of veto” and not accepted the purchase option from St. Pauli. Andreas Bornemann, St. Pauli's sports director, expressed his disappointment at the loss of the player, who had fit perfectly into the team both athletically and personally. In 25 Bundesliga games, Guilavogui scored six goals and provided two assists, making him the club's top scorer.
But that's not all. The attacker also collected one goal and two assists in two cup games. Despite this impressive record, which demonstrates his abilities on the pitch, Guilavogui is drawn back to the French Ligue 1. The star's contract with Lens runs until 2027 and it is emphasized by Lens sporting director Jean-Louis Leca that Guilavogui has undergone a positive development in the Bundesliga. This development could be crucial for him to start the coming season with new self-confidence.
The search for reinforcements
The situation is now becoming difficult for FC St. Pauli as they are urgently looking for reinforcements for the offensive. In the last transfer period, the neighborhood club already managed to sign a few new signings. Midfielder Robert Wagner (21, on loan from Freiburg) and goalkeeper Ben Voll (23, from Viktoria Cologne) were brought in. Winger Scott Banks (22, from Crystal Palace) was also permanently signed.
While these new additions are intended to stabilize the team's direction, eyes now turn to the attack, which will be significantly weakened by Guilavogui's departure. Departures like that of Marcel Hartel (28, to St. Louis CITY) and Eric da Silva Moreira (18, to Nottingham Forest) show that the squad is changing significantly and adjustments are necessary in order to survive in the Bundesliga.
A new coach in Lens
Guilavogui's return to RC Lens also comes at a time when the club is experiencing leadership changes. Pierre Sage has taken over the role of coach from Will Still and could offer the striker new impulses and game ideas. The coming season promises to be interesting for both Guilavogui and the Lens team.
For FC St. Pauli it is now a matter of quickly getting over the loss and exploring new perspectives in the transfer market. The next few weeks will be crucial for squad planning and the club's sporting strategy.
