DFB Cup lottery ticket draw: Owen Ansah causes excitement!

An exciting weekend is ahead for all football fans: the first round of the 2025/26 DFB Cup will be drawn on Sunday, June 15, 2025. This event will take place live on ZDF from 5:15 p.m. and will be moderated by the talented Lili Engels. The Hamburg SV track and field athlete Owen Ansah, who is considered the first “Losfee” to run under 10 seconds over 100 meters – more precisely in 9.99 seconds – will play a special role. This makes him the first German to set this impressive record, as HSV.de reports.

But what is the DFB Cup actually all about? The DFB Cup, often referred to as the DFB Club Cup, is the second most important title in German club football. The competition has enjoyed great popularity since it was first held in 1935, when it was known as the Tschammer Cup. In the knockout system, 64 teams, including the Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga and even amateur clubs, determine the winner. Wikipedia describes the cup structure that allows teams to compete against opponents from different classes.

The first rounds and special features

The first DFB Cup games are scheduled for August 15th and 18th, 2025. However, there is a small delay waiting for the defending champions VfB Stuttgart and the champions FC Bayern Munich: both teams will not play until August 26th or 27th due to the Supercup. The grand final will take place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium on May 23, 2026 - a highlight in the football calendar!

Another great event in the HSV environment: U19 player Jeremy Ade has extended his contract with Hamburger SV and is now staying with the club in his eleventh season. The young footballer once moved to HSV when he was just eight years old and played exclusively for this club during this time. In addition, a true HSV legend is celebrating his birthday today: Bernd Wehmeyer, who won three championship titles and one European Cup in 236 competitive games, is 73 years old. Winger Bakery Jatta also has reason to be happy, as he turns 27 and is HSV's second division record player with 180 out of 217 competitive games.

A view full of anticipation

The draw on Sunday marks the beginning of an exciting time for all fans of German football. The DFB Cup not only brings exciting encounters, but also the opportunity for smaller clubs to play against big names and experience the big surprises. As always, the competition will be a mess of emotions, drama and, most importantly, pure football feeling!
