The power women of the KGR St. Georg: A new chapter of the community
A lot is happening in the parish of St. Georg: Ursel Schröder was recently elected as the new chairwoman. Together with Ines Erb, who is at her side as deputy, she now leads the committee, which is proudly referred to as the “power team of the KGR St. Georg”. At a celebratory meeting, which was also attended by Pastor Schmollinger and PM Ines Rabus, the new leadership received a lot of praise for their breath of fresh air and the commitment that they would like to bring to the church's work. Ilona Schuler will also represent the Dean's Council in the future. New to the committee are Theresia Fackelmann and Carina Merz, who celebrated their debut with a culinary feast.
The parish council (KGR) has a lot of responsibility. Together with the pastor, he shapes community life and ensures that important decisions are made and implemented. The core tasks include conveying the Christian message, supporting those in need and strengthening youth work. The members are dependent on theories, wishes and suggestions from the community, because only together can the church be kept alive. KGR meetings are open to the public and all interested community members are warmly invited to contribute their suggestions and thoughts.
Focus on women in leadership positions
One aspect that is becoming increasingly important in the Catholic Church is the role of women in leadership positions. Recent surveys have shown that the proportion of women in middle and upper management levels has already reached 32.5 percent. Women in the church in particular are supported through measures such as mentoring programs and flexible working time models. These initiatives not only contribute to a cultural change within the church, but also make it more attractive as an employer. Bishop Dr. Peter Kohlgraf from Mainz emphasizes the importance of further increasing the proportion of women and addressing existing structural injustices in order to ensure equal access to leadership positions.
The changes at St. George reflect a larger trend within the Catholic Church that is increasingly including women in leadership roles. The successes of recent years show that women in the church can create discord that can be heard far beyond the community's borders. Having started with fresh enthusiasm, the ladies on the St. Georg Parish Council are ready to actively shape the community and raise their voices for the concerns of young and old.
Working together, living together and putting faith into action - these are the goals that the Power team is working towards, while the doors of the KGR remain open to everyone who is interested.
