Attention PBC patients: Meet experts in six cities!

Important events for those affected by primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) are coming up in Germany in the next few weeks. The Germany-wide initiative outlines an exciting program in six locations, including Hamburg. The events aim to provide information and support, because PBC is a serious disease that can lead to significant health problems for many people if left untreated. Mercury reports that the meetings will take place between November 17th and 25th, 2025.

The event in Hamburg will be held on November 20, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the DesignOffices Hammerbrook. Here, patients and relatives can find out about symptoms, diagnostics and treatment options for PBC. Expert lectures and exchanges with self-help groups offer a valuable platform for everyone present.

What exactly is PBC?

Primary biliary cholangitis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease of the liver that attacks the bile ducts and, in the worst case, leads to their destruction. The Mayo Clinic describes that PBC primarily affects women between the ages of 30 and 60 and is often due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

Symptoms often develop gradually over years. Early signs include jaundice, dry eyes and mouth, pain in the upper right abdominal area, and a general feeling of being unwell. More serious complications such as liver cirrhosis or even liver failure can occur as a result of the disease.

Access to information

Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to slowing the progression of the disease. “Participation in the events is free, and information and the possibility to register can be found on the campaign website,” adds Merkur. We can look forward to the special information offerings in other cities, with events also taking place in Berlin, Bochum, Mannheim, Munich and Münster.

In summary, the information series offers everyone affected by this disease the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information and exchange experiences. So if you are someone who may be suffering from PBC or simply want to learn more, don't miss the opportunity!
