Hamburg's UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt is celebrating a new special brand!
Speicherstadt, Hamburg, Deutschland - On July 3, 2025, the new special brands of Deutsche Post are all about architecture and the historical heritage of Germany. The first of the brands that adorn the Speicherstadt Hamburg (Minr. 3914) is presented with a lot of excitement - and it is truly a feast for the eyes. Philapress reported that the storage city was built from 1885 to 1927 and is now one of the largest and most uniform historical port lag complexes worldwide. In total, the Speicherstadt comprises 24 memory blocks and a storage area of 300,000 m². It is also noteworthy that it was rebuilt between 1949 and 1967 after the severe destruction in World War II. The Speicherstadt has been under monument protection since 1991 and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site: "Speicher city and Kontorhausviertel with Chilehaus".
This includes the chile house, an impressive example of early modernist brick architecture, which was built between 1922 and 1924. The client was the Hamburg merchant Henry Brarens Sloman. The combination of warehouse and office buildings reflects the dynamic development of international trade, which was observed in late 19th and early 20th centuries. UNESCO emphasizes that the storage city and the adjacent account house district are an outstanding example of urban architecture that still shape the character of Hamburg.
