Construction site at Reeseberg: closure until shortly before Christmas!
Things are going a little haywire in the Wilstorf district at the moment: The full closure of the Reeseberg, which was originally planned until November 28th, 2025, has now been extended until December 19th, 2025. The closed section extends between Anzengruber Straße and Friedrich-List-Straße. While construction work is underway, pedestrians and cyclists can continue to pass through the construction site, which is a small relief for residents, such as Harburg Current reported.
It is particularly worth mentioning that there are no designated diversions for motor vehicle traffic. Residents still sneak along alternative routes, such as Winsener Strasse or Jägerstrasse, in order to remain mobile in the district. Please note that there is a one-way system between Friedrich-List-Straße and Tivoliweg in order to make traffic flow a little less chaotic.
Construction work with perspective
The Harburg district office is committed to sustainably improving the infrastructure. The construction work on Reeseberg includes the repair of the roadway, sidewalks and parking stalls. The aim is to increase safety in the 30 km/h zone. At the same time, the redesign will include sub-areas, which should not only benefit traffic safety, but also the overall quality of life in the neighborhood - as the district office emphasizes. The measures are part of the renovation that has already been launched as part of the RISE urban development program to also improve the accessibility of the nearby playground for children, which is a good step in the right direction.
The first plans go back to 2021, when the RISE district advisory board was already involved in the preliminary planning phase. The final decision was made in October 2021 and the first planning documents were sent out in 2022. The implementation was deliberately timed so that it did not take place parallel to other construction sites in order not to place additional strain on traffic flow.
Regulations and innovations for more safety
The current measures are also in the context of a nationwide initiative on road traffic regulations, which was passed by the Federal Council in July 2024. This enables cities and municipalities to pay more attention to climate and environmental protection, health and urban development without endangering traffic safety. These new regulations help municipalities, among other things, make it easier to set speed limits at 30 km/h at important points such as playgrounds and schools Federal Environment Agency reported. Another aspect of this amendment is the reduction in traffic accidents, which should ultimately also benefit the residents in Reeseberg.
The construction work on Reeseberg not only focuses on the maintenance and safety of the traffic routes, but also on a more livable future for all citizens in the region. Even if the temporary restrictions may be unpleasant, in this case the perseverance seems to be really worth it.
