A7 complete closure in December: heavy goods traffic has to take detours!

A comprehensive full closure of the A7 is imminent, which not only represents a challenge for the responsible authorities and road users, but is also absolutely necessary. According to Kreizeitung Wochenblatt, the motorway will be completely closed for the expansion in the Elbmarsch area from Friday, December 5th at 10 p.m. until Monday, December 8th at 5 a.m. This measure affects both the Hamburg-Stellingen (26) and Hamburg-Heimfeld (32) directions.

The main reason for the closure is the installation of new traffic sign gantries and the technical equipment of existing bridges. This is an essential step in realizing the plans to widen the A7 in the K20 area from six to eight lanes, which have been in planning since spring 2024.

Blocking details

From Friday, December 5th, at 9 p.m., the driveways at important junctions such as Hamburg-Volkspark (27) and Hamburg-Bahrenfeld (28) will gradually be closed. These diversions for through traffic are large and are aimed, among other things, at road users who need to get onto the A1 from the south from Buchholzer triangle (43) or Horster triangle (40) via Maschener Kreuz (39). For all those coming from the north, take the B205 from the Neumünster-Süd junction (15).

A clear information policy is of great importance. The diversions are displayed via the LED signage of the network control system so that no one should get lost in traffic. For large and heavy transport, it is also crucial to note that the A7 is not accessible in both directions during the total closure; therefore they also have to resort to extensive diversions.

The progress of the construction work

DEGES (German Unity Trunk Road Planning and Construction GmbH) is responsible for the planning and construction of this project on behalf of Autobahn GmbH. The traffic flow has been ensured for some time by a new superstructure towards the north, while the southbound carriageway is now being expanded. This represents a significant step towards modernized and improved infrastructure to better cope with increasing traffic in the region.

Further information on the diversion routes and specific details will be published in the coming weeks. The affected drivers and companies should inform themselves in good time about alternative routes.
