New Café Pauszeit in Ottensen: Your oasis for vegan treats!

A fresh coat of paint for the Ottensen gastronomy: The “Pauszeit” café will be opening on Behringstrasse at the beginning of October. Behind this new concept is the 28-year-old ecotrophologist Lena Paus, who was inspired by international café culture during her travels through Australia, Spain and the USA. After three years of pandemic standstill, she is now fulfilling her dream of owning her own café that focuses on healthy, sustainable and vegan cuisine. The former city café, which has been closed since 2019, is given a new life with the curved Hundertwasser-style facade.

The charm of the “break time” is underlined by the planned furnishings in the typical Hundertwasser look. The guest room is not only used for enjoyable moments with sustainable food, but also for special events and workshops. Regular yoga and brunch events as well as watercolor painting courses are planned to strengthen the community in Ottensen.

A diverse breakfast offering

If you think about “break time,” your mouth is probably already watering. The menu will offer an all-day breakfast offering - from sweet bowls and sandwiches to smoothies and pancakes. At lunchtime, guests can look forward to hearty dishes prepared from regional and seasonal ingredients. A range of drinks is also offered, from coffee to homemade cakes to kombucha from Stade and alcoholic drinks.

Trends in coffee culture

The “Pauszeit” fits seamlessly into a growing trend: In Germany, the demand for vegan and alternative coffee offerings is increasing. Coffee is one of the most popular drinks, and Germans are increasingly placing importance on sustainability, health and ethical aspects. The result? A rethink in cafés, which are expanding their product ranges and implementing innovative concepts that also include vegan and plant-based milk alternatives such as oat and soy milk. Over 60% of German cafés now offer at least one plant-based milk option, making the vegan lifestyle a real growth driver.

In this context, the “Pauszeit” café will not only be a place of enjoyment, but also a part of a larger movement aimed at offering ethical and environmentally friendly drinks and food. Lena Paus strategically positions her café in a burgeoning market that is increasingly concerned about transparency regarding origin and production. It will be exciting to see how “Pauszeit” will fare in Ottensen’s lively gastronomic landscape.

Overall, the new concept shows where coffee culture is headed – a mix of taste, sustainability and community that comes together in an even manner during the “break time”. A place that you should put on your pleasure list now!
