Eintracht Norderstedt defeats Altona 93 in the decisive basement duel!
Eintracht Norderstedt was able to score the urgently needed three points in the clash with Altona 93 on Sunday afternoon and thus win the basement duel. The game took place at the Edmund Plambeck Stadium and the atmosphere was tense as both teams were only separated by a meager point in the table. Before kick-off, it was clear to everyone involved that there was a lot at stake here - Norderstedt had been waiting for a win for four games, while Altona 93 had recently suffered two defeats.
The spectators in Norderstedt were initially surprised by their team's offensive style of play. Ezra Ampofo, new signing from Altona, had the first chance of the game, but it was parried by the Altona keeper. The first half was characterized by many duels and inadequacies, which meant that the teams went into the locker room without scoring. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Karschau von Altona could have almost turned the game around, but his shot was blocked by Norderstedt's goalkeeper Konstantin Petzsch (40th minute).
After halftime: Norderstedt's power play
After the break, Altona showed a small sign of life in their first offensive: Sulejmani, however, narrowly failed (55th minute). The decisive turning point of the game came in the 63rd minute when Karschau was shown a yellow-red card for his second foul and Altona had to continue playing while outnumbered. Norderstedt exploited this situation mercilessly. They pushed for the lead with a power play and were rewarded in the 73rd minute. Krüger converted a corner from Behounek to make it 1-0.
The mood among the home fans boiled over as Norderstedt created more chances - Groß even hit the crossbar in the 76th minute. Despite all efforts, Altona tried to turn the tide, but the offensive remained ineffective and had no success. Norderstedt defended cleverly and saved the lead over time and finally celebrated the victory in seven minutes of added time.
The look ahead
With this result, Norderstedt remains in the Regionalliga Nord Regionalliga in search of a connection to the non-relegation places. The next important game against Oldenburg awaits next weekend. Altona 93, on the other hand, will face Werder Bremen's reserve team on Wednesday, which could allow them to collect points in the relegation battle. It remains to be seen whether Altona can overcome the tricky situation and stage a comeback to build on last season's successes.
Both teams signed some new players during the summer transfer window in order to make the season more successful. These included Marcell Sobotta and Nils Brüning for Norderstedt and Ezra Ampofo for Altona, all of whom are expected to bring a breath of fresh air into the teams. These new additions will be crucial for the rest of the season.
