On New Year's Eve, the Hamburg police had to record a total of 1,398 operations - an increase compared to the 1,079 operations in the previous year. This situation is also reflected in the events that took place primarily in the Steilshoop and St. Pauli districts. While the majority of celebrations were peaceful, some incidents required extensive emergency response. Ten police officers were injured during the operation, with one colleague unable to continue his duties due to an injury. Interior Senator Andy Grote (SPD) paid his respects to the emergency services and wished the injured officers a speedy recovery.
Important events attracted many Hamburg residents and visitors to the city. Over 7,000 people celebrated at the Landungsbrücken, while the Inner Alster attracted around 4,000 people.
