Golf for a good cause: 33,333 euros collected for cancer research!
In the picturesque setting of Hohwacht, over 150 enthusiastic golfers recently gathered to play for a good cause at the UKSH Friends and Supporters Association's golf charity tournament. At this event the focus was clearly on supporting cancer research, specifically the University Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein (UCCSH) reported.
The event raised an impressive 33,333 euros, all of which will benefit cancer research in Kiel and Lübeck. Prof. Claudia Baldus, Director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine II, emphasized the importance of this support for cancer patients. Her colleague, Prof. Nikolas von Bubnoff, Director of the Clinic for Hematology and Oncology, emphasized how important the donations are for improving patient care.
Focus on information and dialogue
A special highlight of the evening was the informative supporting program, which was dedicated to a panel discussion and a keynote speech about oncological care and personalized cancer therapy. Here, the participants were not only offered exciting insights into current research, but also shown important approaches to discussion about the future development of patient care.
From a sporting perspective, it was also about more than just competition. Leon von Elm and Marek Sonnenrein secured first place in first class with 46 net points. In the gross rating, Magdalena and Alexander Hoffmeister were at the top of the podium with 33 and 34 gross points. But one thing was clear to everyone: commitment to the cause was more important than sporting ambition.
Long-term support and future events
Since 2011, the association has been able to collect over 350,000 euros for various charitable projects at the UKSH through similar events. Such successes show that the sense of community and the will to stand up for the weaker people are strong in the region.
Similar large events are also planned in other regions of Germany. For example, the Golf4Research charity tournament will take place on June 8, 2024 at the Schloss Maxlrain golf club, where donations will be collected for the German Cancer Research Center. Here's how a report shows, a large supporting program with auctions and special promotions is offered.
Whatever the result on the golf course, one thing remains undisputed: great things are being achieved here as a community, and not just on the grass, but also beyond the fairways of cancer research.
