Fire departments save Christmas: Dramatic operations in Seevetal!

In the last few days, Seevetal has been kept busy by several fire department operations, especially during the Christmas holidays. Loud Seevetal current The fire brigade was required from Monday evening, December 23rd, until midday on the second holiday. There were a total of five missions that involved the emergency services from Seevetal and the surrounding area.

The largest operation took place on December 23rd at 7:45 p.m. on the REWE site in Stelle. Here a container for waste paper burned to its full extent. A total of three fire departments - the Maschen fire department and the volunteer fire departments from Stelle and Freienberg/Rosenweide - were called into action. Using C-jet pipes and foam pipes, four firefighters wearing self-contained breathing apparatus fought the fire, which was accessible via a ladder. After an hour and a half of operation, the cause of the fire remained unclear until the last minute while the police began their investigation.

Rescuers in action

However, the Christmas period was not without further alarms. One of the operations occurred on December 24th at 5:41 p.m. when the Meckelfeld fire department, together with the Maschen marshalling yard fire department, freed a person from a stuck elevator. On the evening of December 25th at 9:25 p.m., the Beckedorf/Metzendorf and Fleestedt fire departments went out to check a fire alarm system in Beckedorf - fortunately without any damage being detected.

December 26th brought two exercises for the Maschen fire department. At 9:15 a.m. the door was opened on Lilienthalstrasse, where a person was found in distress. The emergency services took over the situation. Around midday, the emergency services pumped water out of a full cellar on Am Sportplatz street.

More challenges after Christmas

But the challenges for the fire departments didn't end with the holidays. On Friday evening, December 28th, there was a major fire brigade operation at Großmoordamm in Seevetal. A fire in a warehouse was noticed by passers-by who immediately alerted the fire department. Fire brigades from Lower Saxony and Hamburg were on duty, including the fire engines from the Harburg fire and rescue station as well as several volunteer fire departments from the area, as reported by State newspaper reported.

When the fire brigade arrived, the flames were already blazing inside the hall. The emergency services, equipped with C-jet tubes and self-contained breathing apparatus, were able to react quickly. What was particularly remarkable was that a mobile home that had been parked in the hall could be taken outside in a timely manner. The cause of the fire also remains unclear; the police have started an investigation. While the extinguishing work took around two hours, no information is currently available on the property damage caused.

Causes of fire in focus

Before you think that fires are coincidences, it's worth taking a look at the most common causes of fires. According to that IFS Over 50 percent of all fires in and around buildings are caused by electricity and human error. The truth is often underestimated: A stove that is accidentally switched on while there are flammable materials on it, or careless handling of cigarette butts, can quickly lead to dangerous situations. This is an important note, especially for households with older electrical appliances or lithium-ion batteries, which can increasingly cause damage.

The fire department is ready and well-equipped, but everyone must ensure that they minimize the risk of fire in their everyday lives. Current incidents underline the importance of preventive action to reduce the risk.
