Over 200 gardens open their gates: the big garden weekend!

Lindenweg 4, 23730 Hermannshof, Deutschland - On June 14th and 15th June 2025, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein become a land of milk and honey for garden lovers. In the "Open Garden" campaign, over 200 private gardens open their doors and invite all interested visitors to discover the green variety. Around 40 gardens will take part in the campaign for the first time this year. There is a lot to see and experience from inner courtyard gardens to allotments to magnificent landscape gardens.

Visitors have the unique opportunity to talk to the garden owners, to maintain valuable care tips and maybe even take one or the other offshoot for their own garden. "The whole weekend is a great chance to be inspired, chat with a cup of coffee and bring your own garden up to scratch," the initiative describes the atmosphere.

The biodiversity is impressive: from city gardens that combine benefits and beauty, right down to natural garden concepts - every garden has to tell its own story. This community is not only active in the context of "open garden", but also in numerous community gardens in Germany, many of which are located in urban areas. Such projects not only offer an exchange among gardeners: inside, but also a way to grow their own vegetables and establish social contacts. In cities like Hamburg there are more and more such oases that promote intercultural exchange and healthy growth.

A particularly exciting element of the "Open Garden" campaign is that garden owners provide insights into their individual care techniques and share suggestions for sustainable cultivation. But that's not all: In addition to the main weekend, there is also the “Long Night of Gardens” on August 2, 2025, in which more than 30 gardens open their doors from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. If you want to experience garden love up close, you can enjoy the beauty of around 20-30 gardens on the first Sundays until October. For visitors there is also a printed garden guide with addresses, appointments and short portraits of the participating gardens, which is available by post for only € 2.00
