Matanović in transfer fever: Ex-Frankfurter attracts several Bundesliga clubs!
Igor Matanović, the 22-year-old striker from Eintracht Frankfurt, is well on his way to changing Bundesliga. After a mixed season in which he only played sporadically due to a foot injury and little playing time, Matanović feels the desire to develop further professionally. The young attacker was only used from the start in two other Bundesliga games under coach Dino Toppmöller and was only able to score one goal.
However, in the 2023/24 season, Matanović really blossomed at Karlsruher SC: he impressively demonstrated his skills with 14 goals and seven assists. It is therefore not surprising that numerous Bundesliga teams want to lend a hand. According to a report by Southwest24 VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Mönchengladbach, SV Werder Bremen, FC Augsburg and SC Freiburg are particularly fond of it. They are all interested and there could be a good transfer for Matanović.
High transfer demands as an obstacle
However, a concrete transfer to Borussia Mönchengladbach did not materialize. The reason: The high transfer fee of 10 million euros represented a significant obstacle. These are sums that not every club can easily manage. FC St. Pauli has now also kept an eye on the situation. How Transfer market reported, the second division club could only take action if the transfer fee was reduced or a loan deal was made.
The connection to FC St. Pauli
Matanović's relationship with FC St. Pauli is interesting because he took his first steps in football there and was already active on loan. This could be an additional motive for the club to consider a transfer. Given the current conditions, it will be exciting to see how the situation surrounding the talented striker will develop.
With a current contract at Eintracht Frankfurt until June 30, 2029, Matanović could theoretically stay there for a while. Nevertheless, its market value of 5 million euros, according to information from June 16, 2025, is by no means to be despised. If talks continue, the clubs could potentially get a good deal. It remains to be seen whether the offensive efforts will be successful.
