A new wind in the rectory: Berthold Engels leads the congregations in Rees!

Pastor Berthold Engels is taking the next step in his pastoral career and moving from the parish of St. Franziskus in Uedem to the parish of St. Irmgardis in Rees. This reports Lokalklick.eu. The popular pastor succeeds Michael Eiden, who asked to be relieved of his duties for health reasons.

Pastor Engels' introduction is planned for autumn 2023, and he is already looking forward to his new home: "I feel very welcome here and appreciate the openness and flexibility of the people in Rees." In Uedem he proudly looks back on important projects, including the rescue of the Keppeln church, which will go down in history as a collective effort. The Café Konkret and the holiday camps on Ameland also created positive memories.

Personnel changes in the parish team

Further changes are coming to the parish of St. Francis. Like the website franziskus-uedem.de reports, Mr. Michael Junker and Ms. Maria Müller ended their involvement in the parish team at the end of November at their own request. Both have been with the team since it was founded and continue to volunteer for the community. Your commitment is gratefully acknowledged by the community.

The current members of the parish team are: Berthold Engels, Father Varghese Kurian, Deacon Ludger Broeckmann, Theo Aymans, Steffi Bornheim, Johannes van Gemmeren, Anna Schlautmann and Christiane Wirtz. Interested citizens are invited to actively participate in the development of the community. Suggestions can be sent via the parish office or directly to the team members. The next meeting of the committee will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in the Uedem parish hall.

Shaping the future of the church

In a broader context, churches are currently facing various challenges. The Evangelical Church works intensively to promote the satisfaction of church employees through good training and support. Important aspects include a strengthened infrastructure as well as the commitment of volunteers and the use of digital options. ekd.de highlights that the diversity of community models, from classic parochial communities to innovative approaches, will be crucial for the future.

The reform discourse suggests that the internal structures of church organizations are becoming increasingly complex. There is a clear need for clarification regarding the future levels and responsibilities within the church. The aim is to establish a service culture, strengthen member orientation and at the same time say goodbye to comprehensive, comprehensive service.

With all of these changes at the top and in the communities, many hope that this new direction will not only increase the church's visibility but also strengthen church members' commitment to the community. A bold step towards an innovative and sustainable future.
