Something is happening in the area of early childhood care in Eggstätt! The new “Hartseewichtel” daycare center was ceremoniously opened in October 2025 and has since been a popular destination for families with small children. With construction costs of around five million euros, the facility has space for a total of 75 children - 25 in the daycare and 50 in the kindergarten. Another advantage of the “Hartseewichtel” is the possibility of accommodating children with greater care needs in the facility. This is supported by the two specialist services for curative education care. However, Mayor Christoph Kraus has expressed concerns about future demand planning, as the municipality is currently not expecting an increase in the number of children. A new needs planning is already in progress, which should be geared to the needs of the community.
Diverse care options
The municipality of Eggstätt, which has around 2,900 residents, offers a variety of care options for parents. The selection ranges from kindergartens to crèches and childminders. The municipalities are obliged to continuously assess the need for care offers and adapt them to their residents, as the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs explains in its guidelines. Parents also have the option of enrolling their children in institutions outside of their place of residence.
Support and networking among parents are also important in Eggstätt. Children's flea markets not only offer an opportunity to buy toys and clothes cheaply, but also promote exchange among each other. There is also space for committed parents in support associations who would like to actively work on improving the care offerings.
