NDR reports that churches offer up to a hundred services on Christmas Eve, including a variety of special events for families.
Particularly noteworthy is the main church of St. Michaelis, known as “Michel”, which hosts six services on December 24th. A Christmas vespers for children is celebrated at 2 p.m. and there are festive services in the afternoon hours, while Christmas masses traditionally begin in the evening, which are celebrated, for example, with a gospel choir in Lurup or as a laser service in the main church of St. Katharinen. These different forms of celebrations offer something for everyone and make the Christmas season in Hamburg a special experience.

- St. Nikolai: Eine moderne Kirche mit vielseitigem Weihnachtsprogramm.
For younger visitors, special services such as the cuddly toy devotion in the Luther Church in Eißendorf and the nativity plays are offered in many communities. In Rissen, a service is held in a stable on the Birkenhof, while in Ohlstedt the town hall garden becomes a celebratory setting for the Christmas services. There really is something for everyone here.
