Hundreds of Christmas services: Hamburg celebrates a peaceful holiday!
The contemplative time is just around the corner in Hamburg, and the churches invite their parishioners and anyone interested to a variety of Christmas services. The festive atmosphere of the city, where the birth of Jesus is celebrated, attracts many people to the places of worship. NDR reports that churches offer up to a hundred services on Christmas Eve, including a variety of special events for families.
Particularly noteworthy is the main church of St. Michaelis, known as “Michel”, which hosts six services on December 24th. A Christmas vespers for children is celebrated at 2 p.m. and there are festive services in the afternoon hours, while Christmas masses traditionally begin in the evening, which are celebrated, for example, with a gospel choir in Lurup or as a laser service in the main church of St. Katharinen. These different forms of celebrations offer something for everyone and make the Christmas season in Hamburg a special experience.
