Fascination of Hamburg: Dmitrij Leltschuk's impressive street photography

Hamburg, a city full of stories and voices wafting through the streets. Photographer Dmitrij Leltschuk captures exactly this multifaceted nature in his new photo book “Hamburg”. The visually stunning volume shows the Hanseatic city from perspectives that you might not have expected. On 204 pages he presents the dynamics of urban life in expressive black and white images. While others often focus on well-known monuments, Leltschuk decided to give people and their daily lives a stage. He shows districts such as St. Pauli, Altona, Eimsbüttel, Rotherbaum and the Neustadt - a true kaleidoscope of impressions and emotions that makes the zeitgeist of Hamburg's people tangible. According to NDR, the illustrated book is available from mare Verlag for 65 euros and has the ISBN 978-3-86648-764-2.

Dmitrij Leltschuk was born in Minsk, Belarus, in 1975 and came to Germany in 2002, where he studied audiovisual media at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. He has been working as a freelance photographer since 2007 and has made a name for himself in documentary and reportage photography. In his work he wants to capture authentic moments and tell real stories. He is not only active for renowned magazines such as mare, GEO and Der Spiegel, but has also taken part in international exhibitions in various countries. Photography in focus

Leltschuk's illustrated book is not just a personal project, but reflects a larger movement - the importance of photojournalism in today's world. From November 21st to 30th, 2024, the pop-up photo festival “Show what is.” will take place in the JUPITER cultural department store in Hamburg. instead, which wants to celebrate exactly this social relevance. A 1,400 square meter group exhibition featuring award-winning photographs and student projects is presented with free admission. This makes the hearts of photography fans beat faster. The exhibitions are complemented by an extensive accompanying program with lectures and workshops that invite people to critically approach photography. Here, young people can also express their view of society through photography - a big step towards promoting media literacy.

This festival is under the patronage of Hamburg's Senator for Culture, Dr. Carsten Brosda and is supported by the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS and the city of Hamburg. It impressively shows how important photography is not only for the art scene, but also for social discussion. At a time when the role of photography is constantly being redefined, the festival can help bring people's perspectives and stories into focus - just as Dmitrij Leltschuk does in his new illustrated book.
