Magical winter fairy tale in Buxtehude: Experience festive magic!

Today, December 26, 2025, the old town of Buxtehude shines in festive splendor. Framed by fairytale lights and life-size figures, the popular winter fairy tale takes place from November 28th to December 28th, brightening up the dark season. This charming event is not only a highlight for the residents, but also attracts numerous visitors to the historic city center.

The event, which has the motto of brightening up the cold months, offers a variety of attractions. On Petri Square and Town Hall Square, as well as along the Lange and Breite Straße shopping streets, guests can enjoy festive carousels and marvel at the vivid fairy tale walls. The city marketing of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude has outdone itself with imaginative offers such as concerts, sing-alongs and the popular storytelling. A special highlight is the Punch and Judy Theater, which brings fun and joy to visitors young and old - it takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Special attractions and offers

There are numerous opportunities for the little ones to get active in the winter fairy tale. The children can create wish lists and hand them in at the Christmas post office. Designed specifically for the festive mood, the large Advent calendar offers surprises and gifts every day. From a culinary point of view, guests can look forward to a wide range of delicacies: from roasted almonds and freshly baked lard cakes to warming mulled wine and punch, there is something for everyone.

A special treat this year is the opportunity to rent a heated barrel on Petri Square. Space for up to eight people guarantees a relaxed get-together in a cozy atmosphere - an ideal option for enjoying the Christmas market in good company.
