HVV HOP is expanding mobility in Harburg from August - new service area!
Hausbruch, Deutschland - in Hamburg-Harburg a lot is happening in local public transport. From August 4, 2025, the innovative on-demand service HVV HOP is drastically extended. What does that mean specifically for the citizens: inside? Quite simply-the operating area extends from Harburg-Ost to the entire district of Harburg and new districts such as Altenwerder, Cranz, Francop, Hausbruch, Moorburg, Neuenfelde and Neugraben-Fischbek are included. Thus, the passengers have even more opportunities to use the service.
Since the service started in January 2023, around 430,000 people have already benefited from this offer. A real hit under the Hamburg transport options! vhh.mobility makes it clear that the project duration was extended by December 31, 2026. Managing Director of VHH.mobility, Franziska Becker, emphasizes that it is primarily about connecting more people to the HVV network and promoting public transport overall. A good hand to improve mobility in the city.
New concept and operating times
With the new expansion of the HVV hop, the concept is also adapted: the users can no longer book trips in parallel to existing lines. Instead, there is a targeted reference to regular public transport. For this reason, the maximum driving distance is limited. The new operating times have also been adapted to the needs of passengers: Monday to Thursday from 4 a.m. to 1.30 a.m. and continuously from Friday to Sunday to midnight. You can be excited to see how this change is accepted.
For everyone who uses the app, there are various payment options such as credit card, PayPal and SEPA direct debit. In addition, users who already have a valid HVV ticket can only pay the surcharge. A very practical option! If you want to know more about this, you will find all payment details on the VHH.Mobility website, such as the account details for SEPA transfers.
The future of mobility in Hamburg
And that's not all that Hamburg expects in the near future. The area of autonomous local transport also picks up speed. As scene Hamburg , the Federal Ministry of Transport promotes the alike project with a proud 26 million euros. By 2030, up to 10,000 autonomous vehicles are to be traveling in the city that make life easier for them. The planned on-demand vehicles are intended to serve in particular districts that have not yet been optimally connected, and that could significantly reduce private transport.
The first test phase for potential users is already considered for 2025 and will be free of charge. The Hamburg Hochbahn works closely with partners such as Holon, VW and Moia in this area. Specifically, one goal is pursued: by 2030, every Hamburger should be able to reach a public mobility offer within five minutes. Another step to the Smart City!
With these measures and projects,Hamburg really has a good knack for the future of mobility. The changes in public transport and the adjustments in service quality show the endeavor to continue to make the city attractive and sustainable for all citizens:
