Dr. Sebastian Kloth: New district office manager appointed for Altona!
With a breath of fresh air in the White City Hall: Dr. Sebastian Kloth has been the new district office manager of Altona since October 28, 2025. He not only brings broad experience from over ten years of service to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, but also an academic background as a doctor of sociology. His appointment was the result of a county assembly election in which Kloth received an impressive 73 percent of the vote. He succeeds Stefanie von Berg, who has now moved to the environmental authority. Kloth is not only the only Green among the seven district office heads, but also, at 44, one of the youngest in this office.
Dr. Kloth describes himself as uncomplicated, pragmatic and solution-oriented. The new district office manager has already served in various key positions, including as personal advisor to the Senator for Science, Research and Equal Opportunities and in the Bergedorf district office, where he headed the Internal Service Department and the Climate Protection Office. Most recently, he was head of the department for economics, construction and the environment in the Altona district office. Now he will take the helm at the White City Hall, where around 1,200 people are employed.
Visions for Altona
Dr. Kloth has great ambitions for his new position. One of its main goals is to promote affordable housing in the district. He plans to continue initiatives that have already been started and enrich them with new impulses. District Senator Andreas Dressel praised Kloth's extensive experience, especially in Bergedorf, where, among other things, he was involved in the upcoming sale of the Holsten area to Saga and Quantum. This experience will certainly help him to successfully meet the challenges that await Altona.
A look at the new challenges
But not everything is in the fast lane: this morning, for example, the Freihafenelbrücke in the port of Hamburg was damaged in a shipping accident, which is putting traffic and infrastructure planning to the test. And the Hamburg transport association will see price increases of an average of 5.4 percent from 2026, which will also concern citizens.
The challenges facing the district are great, but Dr. Kloth seems to have a good knack for finding solutions. It could lead the Altona district into an exciting future - especially now, when fresh ideas are more in demand than ever. The next few months will show how his visions and plans become more concrete and what new paths he will take for Altona.
