Opening of the Otto Wild exhibition: Harbor pictures from Hamburg in Blankenese!

A touch of Hamburg blows through the Evangelical Community Academy Blankenese, where the exhibition "Otto Wild. Harborbilder from Hamburg" has opened its doors. On 16. July celebrated the vernissage with an introduction by the collector Carlfried Osenegg and musical accompaniment by Hauke Ströh on the piano. Osenegg, who was born in Hamburg himself, was all the more enthusiastic that the impressive works of the Impressionist painter Otto Wild, who lived from 1898 to 1971, can be brought back into the light in this form.

Otto Wild, who originally saw the light of day in Chiemgau, found the way to Hamburg in the 1920s. Inspired by the open -air painting of the Hague School, he dealt intensively with the portrayal of the port of Hamburg, the Alster and other distinctive places in the city. Despite his early success, when his paintings were very popular with Hanseatic merchants and bankers, Wild's work after the Second World War and a serious illness fell behind. But Osenegg, who had a young personal contact with Wild, did not want to accept this unknown. In the 1990s, he discovered early Hamburg images of the painter in his father's estate, which stimulated him to seek further collections. To the 125. Birthday by Otto Wild in 2023, Osenegg went in search of other collectors and was finally able to collect an impressive collection of five different collections.

The exhibition: A revival of Wilds works

to 19. August can admire visitors to the show, which shows around 30 different works. Erika Wild, the daughter of the painter, also commented on the exhibition and presented her personal favorite pictures. "It is nice to see that my father's work is appreciated again," she said during the opening event.

The exhibition is not only a feast for the eyes, but also a good business for the cultural city of Hamburg. Admission is free, donations are welcome. The Evangelical Community Academy Blankenese and the Blankeneser interest community e.V. actively support this valuable initiative.
