Round table at Wiesendamm: Focus on commitment to neighbors!

Commitment and neighborliness are the focus of the upcoming residential accommodation round table on Wiesendamm. On Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 6 p.m., the örU interim location Wiesendamm, group room, Wiesendamm 30, 22305 Hamburg, invites all interested parties and neighbors. The aim here is to share current information from the accommodation, present reports from volunteers and discuss opportunities for engagement. The event is organized by representatives of Support and housing and the Hamburg-Nord district office.

The invitation is aimed at anyone who would like to find out more about the projects at the accommodation or become active themselves. If you have any questions or want to join the e-mail distribution list, you can send a message to socialspacemanagement@hamburg-nord.hamburg.de send. Media representatives can contact Kaja Weber from the press office of the Hamburg-Nord district office Pressestelle@Hamburg-Nord.Hamburg.de report.

Involvement in the neighborhood

Volunteering in Hamburg has many facets, as was recently observed at a breakfast for the residents of the Hornkamp accommodation. Every last Friday of the month the doors to the meeting room are open to allow chatting, baking cakes and even playing table tennis. Around 80 single homeless men, women and couples, some with pets, benefit from this initiative. The aim is to make the residents' everyday lives more varied and to promote social exchange, as Fördern und Wohnen reports.

The events not only offer a platform for everyday activities, but also the opportunity to make friends and banish loneliness. A spacious, barrier-free kitchen in the Hornkamp accommodation enables residents to take part directly in what is happening and to get actively involved.

Strengthen migrant engagement

Another important aspect of social interaction in Hamburg is the commitment of migrants for migrants, which makes a decisive contribution to integration. The Hamburg Community Foundation highlights that migrant self-organizations (MSOs) reach many children, young people and families who are often overlooked by social projects. These organizations can draw on their personal experiences and offer support in a familiar language and atmosphere.

Access to funding is a challenge for many of these initiatives, as language and bureaucratic hurdles often make access difficult. But with the “Migrant Engagement” thematic fund, the migrant communities in Hamburg are strengthened, which is of central importance for a lively and diverse city with a rich culture.
