The Long Night of Literature is an integral part of Hamburg's cultural calendar and will take place this year onSeptemberfor the12th timecelebrated. From2 p.m. to 9 p.mVisitors can expect an impressive journey through the diverse literary scene of the Hanseatic city, with around40 eventsin different places. Whether non-fiction, fiction, comics, poetry or crime fiction – there is something here for every taste. The event is supported by the Authority for Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which shows a good knack for promoting our local culture.
Special highlights of the Long Night are not only the numerous readings, but also formats such asDiary Slam, thePoetry night, theBRICK quartetandBooks & Beats. The events take place in independent bookstores and cultural centers around Hamburg and offer participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with renowned authors. The well-known names include, among othersMarica Bodrožić,Kurt Prödel,Asal DardanandSasa Stanišić. A varied program
- 14:00 Uhr: Lesung von Sandra Dünschede in der Bücherhalle Volksdorf, Vorstellung ihres Krimis „Frisenrausch“.
- 16:00 Uhr: Lesung von Asal Dardan im Frauen*bildungszentrum DENKtRÄUME aus ihrem Roman „Traumaland“.
- 18:00 Uhr: Format Books & Beats in der Buchhandlung stories!, begleitet von der Band Pockets Full of Change.
- 21:00 Uhr: Abschlussveranstaltung im Goldbekhaus e.V. mit Sekt, Musik und freiem Eintritt.

Cultural diversity in the Hamburg area
To ensure that the literary scene remains so lively, many initiatives contribute to its support, such as:Harbor reading, which takes place in the night shelter under the Thalia roof. Here authors present poetry and prose in their native languages, some translated into German. Vegan delicacies round off the offering. These events are a real hit and show that Hamburg is a real melting pot of cultures.
Another format is“At Hilde’s – Bread & Stories”, a reading stage that takes place in Brakula. Here, local authors can tell their own stories and discuss topics that are close to their hearts in conversation with audience members. There are also butter sandwiches, wine and water – a successful combination of enjoyment and literature.
This is also particularly popularSlamville, which takes place on the MS Artville site in the summer months. Music, singing, dance and poetry slam come together here - a festival that guarantees lots of fun for everyone. Under the motto“Poet on the Elbe”the reading series will be fromWriters' Roomorganized, where Hamburg authors present their works not far from the Strandperle.
