ARD quiz under criticism: Wrong questions about DFB women cause trouble!
On Saturday evening, the ARD show “2025 – The Quiz” caused a stir when a question about the German women’s national soccer team contained several errors in content. The participants were asked to guess which song Wolfgang Petry sang during a visit to the DFB women's training camp. The choice was the hit “Wahnsinn”, while the correct answer would have been “Fall in love, lost, forget, forgive”, the team's official European Championship song. Barbara Schöneberger didn't miss the opportunity to comment ironically on the question and thanked all the women on behalf of them.
The question was incorrectly based on a supposedly “outstanding team performance”, even though Petry visited the team at their direct request. Viewers criticized the inexhaustible distribution of topics on LinkedIn, as it took almost two hours for a question about women to be asked. ARD responded to the criticism with an evasive explanation about the selection of the most important events of the year, while Günther Jauch remained calm on the show.
An honor for Wolfgang Petry
Wolfgang Petry's visit was not just a one-off event. Before the German women's national team's opening game against Poland at the 2025 European Championship, Petry was even recognized as an honorary member of the DFB team. Captain Giulia Gwinn reported on a great time with Petry, who was visiting the preparation camp in Herzogenaurach. On this occasion, the players sang his hit “Fall in love, lost, forget, forgive”. Petry released a special version of his song as the 2025 team anthem for the tournament in Switzerland and will be with the players in his thoughts throughout the competition, although he will not be there in person.
A large jersey with Petry's picture and a speech bubble of his song "All or nothing" hangs in the dressing room, on which all the players have left their signatures. According to DFB kit manager Steve Smith, the support team likes to listen to 80s and 90s rock when setting up the dressing room, but not Petry's songs, which are very popular with the players. Petry often plays on the bus after international matches.
An unusual cabin visit
The insight into the DFB women's dressing room, provided by ARD, also showed that there are no shoes in the dressing room because the players bring them with them themselves - a clear difference to their male colleagues. ARD reporter Lea Wagner also had to be careful not to film certain things, such as mourning armbands for the late Liverpool professional Diogo Jota.
Overall, it remains to be seen how the DFB women will fare at the European Championships, while Wolfgang Petry remains a mental support and a familiar face for the team.
