Hamburg remains stable: social monitoring shows positive dynamics!

What are the social structures in Hamburg? The current social monitoring report provides clear answers to this question. Loud hamburg.de The results show that the state capital remains stable and there are no signs of social conditions drifting apart. On the contrary: the majority of Hamburg residents live in middle or high status neighborhoods. These positive trends were particularly highlighted during the presentation by Karen Pein, Senator for Urban Development and Housing.

The increase in statistical areas with positive dynamics is also notable, growing from 25 to 41 compared to the previous year. This trend is particularly evident in the RISE funding areas, where social stability remains secure. Here the proportion of areas with positive dynamics is 7.9%, while in the rest of the city it is only 4.2%. These key figures are the result of comprehensive social monitoring, which annually examines the socio-spatial development in the city.

Investments and funding

In order to further stabilize Hamburg's social fabric, around 58.9 million euros in public funds were invested in 28 neighborhoods in 2024. Of this, 31.5 million euros went into RISE funds. This funding aims to improve the urban development of neighborhoods in need of development and to ensure social stability. The current report uses data that has been collected since 2010 to identify areas in need of support at an early stage and thus initiate targeted measures.

The analysts paid particular attention to indicators such as the proportion of recipients of state benefits, the unemployment rate and the proportion of children and young people with a migrant background. This data is crucial for identifying socio-spatial differences and developing appropriate measures to support the affected areas.

The look into the future

The results of the report, which was prepared as of December 31, 2024, are encouraging. A total of 857 statistical areas are considered, with each area having an average population of around 2,300 inhabitants. This detailed consideration helps to maintain and support the social structure in Hamburg in the long term.
