Carola Veit safely landed in Hamburg after Israel conflict!

Hamburg, Deutschland - The Citizenship President of Hamburg, Carola Veit, has returned safely from Israel. Her visit, which was originally only four days, was extended by a few days by the stricter fighting in the Middle East. In the afternoon, the President landed at Fuhlsbüttel Airport after she first had to travel from Tel Aviv via the land path to Amman. The return was certainly a sigh of relief for Veit, which finally entered the domestic soil again on Monday after an unexpectedly long waiting period in Tel Aviv after Israeli forces started with attacks on targets in Iran the night before.

Veit described that due to the military conflicts, they were fixed for three nights in Tel Aviv. She had described the situation on site as "highly dangerous" and made it clear that the people in Israel are used to spontaneous changes in the security environment, but many surprised many. There was a strongly limited public life in Israel, schools were closed and there were several alarm reports in the city. Despite these tense circumstances, Veit was able to visit some important places, including the Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem and the Knesset.

return trip through an endangered area

On Monday the return trip took place via a ride to Jordan. It is planned to start the journey home to Hamburg from Amman, probably via Saudi Arabia. This route became necessary because Israeli airspace was closed to air traffic due to the fighting, which made the situation extremely challenging for passengers. The Middle East conflict not only has massive effects on the ground, but also in the air, as shown, among other things, the closure of numerous air spaces.

As reported by aeroinnternation, the flight routes worldwide have changed, which forced airlines to use air spaces over Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which significantly extends flight times. Many airlines now completely avoid the region, which has led to numerous flight cancellations and diversions. This also affects flights to India or Dubai, since important air corridors in the Middle East can no longer be passed.

Veit was relieved about the safe retreat that she was offered and concluded with the determination that the escalation of the conflict in the region questioned the security architecture heavily. She particularly emphasized that Israel sees Iran as an underestimated threat to the western world. Her visit took place at the invitation of the Israeli ambassador in Germany, Ron Prosor, and took place despite the tense security situation, which was further fueled by the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.

With Veit return, it is once more evident how Volatil is the situation in the Middle East. The effects not only feel the direct affected, but also international air traffic is now severely affected by the developments on site.
