FCN relies on Carlo Boukhalfa: The new midfield wizard!

A new wind is blowing at 1. FC Nürnberg: The club is urgently looking for reinforcements for the midfield center, and that's where the name Carlo Boukhalfa comes into play. How Club focus reports, the 26-year-old, who is currently under contract with FC St. Pauli, is one of the hottest candidates.

Boukhalfa, born on May 3, 1999 and with Algerian roots, has experienced mixed feelings in recent seasons. After moving from Regensburg to Hamburg in 2022, his playing time in the 2nd Bundesliga was limited. Under coach Fabian Hürzeler he didn't even make it into a competitive game from the start. Nevertheless, he made 19 starting eleven appearances in the last Bundesliga season, which was largely due to injuries to his teammates.

The strengths and weaknesses of Boukhalfa

Boukhalfa's mileage is particularly striking: he completed an average of 12.15 kilometers per 90 minutes, 5.5 kilometers of which were defensive. A real fighter on the pitch! With this attitude, he is valued as an “absolute role model” by his teammates.

However, his technical skills can be improved. The midfielder has the second fewest passes per 90 minutes on the team with just 23 and a pass rate of 76%. His vertical passes have a success rate of 59%, which shows room for improvement in his career so far. Nevertheless, he scores points with a good instinct in front of goal, header strength and a solid finish.

The path to 1. FC Nuremberg

If the move to Nuremberg comes about, the coaching team there would have to have a good knack for properly highlighting Boukhalfa's strengths and at the same time concealing his weaknesses in possession. The question is whether FCN can give him the necessary trust to be suitable for his development and the game system.

The young player made his professional debut on September 13, 2020 for SC Freiburg in the DFB Cup and has already gained some experience. After a loan deal to SSV Jahn Regensburg, he signed permanently with FC St. Pauli in 2021, where he was active until May 17, 2025. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to start the next chapter of his career in Nuremberg after the season in which he is farewelled.
