Strong St. Georg primary school: pioneer for modern education in Maifeld!
On December 1, 2025, state parliament candidate Nicolas Cordes visited the St. Georg elementary school in Polch to gain a direct insight into the modern educational landscape as part of his impulse tour. During lively discussions with school principal Vera Laubenthal and deputy principal Thorsten Kaiser, Cordes proved to be a competent conversation partner who, based on his experience in the education sector, was able to discuss on an equal footing. The St. Georg primary school is not only an educational institution, but also a central part of the regional educational landscape and functions as a full half-day school and all-day school.
The school, which has 380 students in 17 classes and 61 employees, has established itself as a priority school and plays a key role in good education in the Maifeld. However, the concrete implementation of the Inclusion Ordinance results in increasing pedagogical and spatial requirements, which make rethinking and adjustments necessary. The cooperation with the Maifeld municipality as the school authority shows that constructive work is being done on solutions.
Challenges and solutions
Due to the constantly growing challenges in everyday school life, such as the use of parent taxis and the increasing need for support of many families, a structured concept is required. St. Georg has therefore developed a clearly defined protection concept and a well-thought-out layout of the schoolyard that is based on the needs of the children. This concept ensures a safe and engaging learning environment, which is of great importance for both students and teaching staff.
Nicolas Cordes also deals with current developments that go beyond national borders. As part of the resolutions of the Conference of Education Ministers and the Conference of University Rectors, an inclusive overall concept for teacher training is of great importance. These modern approaches to teacher training, initiated by the KMK resolutions, aim to integrate inclusion-specific topics into the curricula and thus prepare teachers for the challenges of a diverse school. The recommendations strive for curricular coordination and networking in order to ensure long-term and effective implementation of inclusion in schools, as can also be found on bildungsserver.de.
Thanks to its clear pedagogical approach and close cooperation with institutions and parents, the St. Georg primary school has a pioneering position in the region. Here, emphasis is not only placed on the education of the children, but also on an environment that focuses on the individual support of each student. St. Georg remains a beacon of modern education in the Maifeld, which actively meets the growing demands of inclusive education and knows how to both master and live them.
