Equestrian sport highlight: Summer tournament in Ingolstadt-Hagau awaits!

It's equestrian sport time again in Ingolstadt-Hagau! The eagerly awaited “Small” tournament of the St. Georg Equestrian Club will take place from July 4th to 6th, 2023, followed by the Equestrian Days from July 10th to 13th. At the Schweiger family's impressive facility, riders and spectators will experience numerous exciting competitions in which highly motivated riders from Bavaria and beyond demonstrate their skills.

Preparations are in full swing and tournament director Georg Schweiger is optimistic. "We have prepared everything well. The stable tent for our 480 horses is already in place," he reports. The anticipation is not only great among the organizers, but also among the over 700 horses registered. The tests range from beginners to demanding class S* jumping with obstacles up to 1.40 meters.

Diverse competitions for everyone

The number of entries speaks for itself: Over 130 horses have registered for the M** jumping, and around 50 will take part in the S* jumping. “This is an incredible response,” Schweiger continued. The Bavarian Show Jumping Club will also be represented in Hagau with its amateur series.

  • Prüfungen für Nachwuchspferde und junge Reiter
  • Stilspring-Wettbewerbe
  • Mannschaftsspringen
  • Dressurprüfungen vom Einfachen Reiterwettbewerb bis zur Klasse M*

A total of 24 competitions will be held, appealing to a wide range of talents. Prominent names such as Daniel Böttcher, Patrick Afflerbach and Anja Steindl have already announced their presence, thereby providing an additional incentive to attend the event.

Equestrian sport in Germany – A look at the numbers

Equestrian sport is very popular in Germany. According to a study by IPSOS, 11.2 million people aged 14 and over are interested in horses and equestrian sports. The German Equestrian Association (FN) has over 662,000 members and the scene is booming like never before. This is also reflected in the numbers: in 2024, over 3,200 tournament events with more than 1 million starts were organized, and the turnover of the German horse industry is estimated at 6.7 billion euros.

The proximity to equestrian sport is also reflected in households; About 600,000 own horses, and many people dream of starting to ride again. So it's no wonder that events like the one in Ingolstadt-Hagau generate so much enthusiasm.

Equestrian sports bring people together, and the coming week in Hagau promises to be another highlight of the year. Spectators are welcome to enjoy this spectacle and support the riders – a true celebration of equestrian sport!
