Kunsthalle Osnabrück invites you to a ghost journey: opening on Saturday!
On June 21, 2025, the Kunsthalle Osnabrück will present an exciting new annual theme: “Ghosts”. With a summer festival kicking off on this day, the cultural institution invites everyone interested in art to explore the fascinating aspects of the topic. The exhibitions, open until February 22, 2026, are designed by the creative trio Chaveli Sifre, Christian Diaz Orejarena and Minh Duc Pham. Particular attention is paid to the topics of ancestors, the transmission of knowledge across generations and transgenerational trauma, which run like a common thread through the exhibits, as NDR highlights in its report.
What exactly can visitors expect? The art gallery, housed in a former church, will provide the framework for installations that combine scent, sound and visual elements. From cartoon ghosts to an impressive flowering sundial - the artists use various forms of expression to explore stories of ancestors and the emotions associated with them. In history and the present, the works address what haunts us from the past and how our own hidden ghosts work in the present day.
An inviting look at the annual theme
What will be particularly interesting will be the invitation to visitors to share their own experiences and memories. What knowledge or traditions were passed down in their families? How do they deal with generational trauma? With its supporting program, the Kunsthalle wants to encourage viewers to bring their own stories into the room in an open dialogue, explains Kunsthalle Osnabrück.
The summer festival, planned from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., also offers a special program with magical moments for the younger guests as well as a DJ set that will keep the atmosphere going well into the night. The evening will be rounded off with live performances by the artists, where Chaveli Sifre will perform with Joran Yonis and Tanja Evers in the nave, among others. The musical enjoyment is complemented by an offer of food and drinks from a food truck, which invites visitors to a sociable exchange, according to Erleben Osnabrück.
The exhibitions at the Kunsthalle are not only a feast for the senses, but also offer an in-depth examination of one's own history. With the possibility of comparing old and new cultural techniques, there will be a geographical and temporal diversity that illuminates both European and non-European perspectives. An invitation to everyone to come to terms with their own “spirits” is in the air. Welcome to a celebratory, reflective summer in Osnabrück!
