A7 weekend closure: traffic chaos between Stellingen and Heimfeld!

The days before the weekend present a major challenge for drivers in Hamburg. From Friday, June 13th, at 10 p.m. to Monday, June 16th, at 5 a.m., the A7 southbound will be completely closed between the Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heimfeld junctions. This is reported by the Eimsbüttel News.

The closure is necessary in order to move forward with the construction of the new Hafen motorway junction and to expand the A7 to eight lanes in the Heimfeld area. As part of this work, new markings will be made on the entire roadway, which should lead to a smoother traffic flow once the measure is completed.

Diversion measures for road users

To counteract the effects of the closure, a large-scale diversion will be set up via the A1, A21 and B205. Road users coming from the north must switch to the B205 from the Neumünster-Süd junction and return to the A1 via the A21. Inner-city diversions should also be taken into account: from the Hamburg-Stellingen junction you can detour through the city center and over the Elbe bridges.

The information for local public transport is also particularly important. Lines 150, 250 and 611 will be rerouted via the Elbe bridges; changes to the timetable can be found on the website HVV to view.

Additional restrictions and construction progress

The construction work is taking place as part of the comprehensive project to expand the A7 and connect the A26 to the motorway network in the south of Hamburg, which is part of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030. This is based on around 2,000 project proposals nationwide, which, among other things, assess the need for future transport. The purpose of these conversion and expansion measures in the Hamburg area is not only to increase road capacity, but also to improve transport connections overall.

Parallel to the reconstruction of the A7, work is also taking place on the “high-flyer”, which represents a connection between the A26 East and the A7. The steel structures have already been completed here and concreting work and road construction are underway. The HH-Hausbruch junction is expected to be fully opened on Monday morning after the marking work.

The restrictions will also affect the A1, which will also be closed at the Bargteheide motorway junction in the direction of Lübeck from Friday, June 13th, 10 p.m. to Sunday, June 15th, at 8 p.m., as well as the Köhlbrand Bridge, which will not be accessible until Monday, June 16th, 5 a.m. The weekend presents a number of traffic hurdles for the people of Hamburg and their guests.

Due to the extensive construction work, the A7 will be accessible with eight lanes between HH-Stellingen and HH-Heimfeld once it is completed. A positive signal for traffic in and around Hamburg, even if some patience is required during the transition phase.
