A7 in Hamburg: closure lifted early – traffic is moving again!
Drivers in Hamburg can now take a deep breath: the full closure of the A7, which began on Friday evening at 10 p.m., was lifted early. The closure was originally planned to last until 5 a.m. on Monday morning, but the federal Autobahn GmbH, North branch, announced that traffic between the Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heimfeld junctions would be flowing again on Sunday evening at 10:30 p.m. This is good news for all commuters and travelers who had to deal with traffic jams and diversions during this time. According to tag24.de it was one of the busiest sections of our Hanseatic city.
The construction work, which aims to expand the A7 to eight lanes, was carried out by the German Unity Fernstraßesplanungs- und -bau GmbH (DEGES). The new Hamburg-Hafen motorway junction will represent a central transport connection in the south of Hamburg. The construction work also included extensive road markings between Hausbruch and Heimfeld. The Köhlbrand Bridge also remained affected during the closure, as recurring main bridge inspections were necessary. There was an increased volume of traffic not only on the A7, but also in the inner city area, which led many drivers astray.
Traffic forecasts and diversions
Autobahn GmbH noticed a tense traffic situation throughout Hamburg and advised all drivers to get information in good time. The current traffic information is available, for example, on ADAC Maps, which shows real-time traffic flow and short-term disruptions. In such cases, being on the roads on time is a must, especially when the never-ending traffic jams make commuters nervous.
However, with the early end to the current lockdown, some normality is returning to the streets. Let's hope that the remaining construction work goes more smoothly and that traffic in and around Hamburg will soon flow smoothly again.
