Özdemir was appreciated for his warm and cheerful nature, and his vegetarian restaurant was very popular - both among residents and MOPO employees. His success was no coincidence: after his culinary training at the renowned Italian restaurant “Portonovo” on the Alster, he showed a good hand when he took over the snack bar “Veg Out” and transformed it into a thriving vegetarian restaurant.
A good friend and father
Cengiz Özdemir leaves behind a seven-year-old son with whom he had a particularly close bond. The last few months were marked by a serious illness; A little over a year ago he was diagnosed with cancer. The initial treatment seemed successful, but the disease returned and eventually ran its course. In his last weeks he was lovingly accompanied by his mother and his engaged partner.
The sadness for Özdemir is palpable. Neighbors and customers have placed flowers and candles in front of his bistro to express their condolences. The closure of its three stores, including two other locations under the name “Ivy” in the old town and on Ottenser Hauptstrasse, leaves many questions unanswered about the future of the businesses.
