KL!CK Children's Museum remains active during renovation - 9.8 million euros will flow!
The KL!CK Children's Museum in Hamburg will remain active during the important, extensive renovation. After more than 20 years in the Maria Magdalena community center in Osdorf, the museum will move to a converted hall for around two to three years, which is only ten minutes away from its current location. The hall rented for this purpose at Brandstücken 43-45 offers an area of around 1,199 square meters and makes it possible to continue to secure the valuable offers. According to hamburg.de, the renovation work has already begun and is being carried out by Sprinkenhof GmbH.
In the coming years, the renovation of the KL!CK will cost a total of around 10 million euros, in which the authority for urban development and housing is contributing around 8.5 million euros. In order to ensure interim accommodation, the authority is providing around 1.3 million euros, most of which comes from the urban development fund for lively neighborhoods. Mayor Karen Pein emphasizes the enormous importance of the children's museum for the Osdorfer Born and Lurup region and is optimistic that the new hall can meet the needs of the 50,000 annual visitors.
A place for creative participation
What is particularly exciting is that the KL!CK is not only a place for exhibitions, but also places great value on the participation of children and young people. This can be seen in a current participation project that is being carried out digitally via the Moodle learning platform. During the project, students, especially from the neighborhood, work on moving topics such as architecture and design. The first class, 8b, has already exhibited its first results in the museum's shop windows. Such initiatives are not only important for the children themselves, but also promote the community in the district [gsst.hamburg.de](https://gsst.hamburg.de/projekte/ Beteiligungsprojekt-zur-sanierung-des-klck-kindermuseum/).
But the KL!CK offers much more: the large range of exhibitions on five different subject areas and special offers for schools and daycare centers make it one of the largest children's museums in Germany. The importance of the museum is underlined by the fact that it is right in the middle of the development of museum education and extracurricular learning spaces. In addition, the KL!CK co-founded the Federal Association of German Children's and Youth Museums and is currently responsible for the association's chairmanship in Hamburg. Due to the extensive renovation work, the barrier-free conversion of the museum is also being supported, which is secured by funding from the SPD and the Greens amounting to up to 1.15 million euros gruene-hamburg.de.
A look into the future
Equipping the KL!CK with modern means and ensuring accessibility is intended to ensure that all children and young people have access to the children's museum's special offerings. The rental subsidy of around 200,000 euros from the urban development fund until the end of 2027 will ensure that the museum's doors can remain open. Once the renovation work has been completed, the aim is to create an innovative space that promotes creative development and offers numerous opportunities for exchange and learning. The trend towards digital approaches, such as those implemented during the lockdown, will continue to play a role in ensuring new ways of participation and networking.
