Convicted beautician continues to illegally inject hyaluronic acid – trial pending!
Sibel C., a 27-year-old beautician from Hamburg, is back in court and the case is causing a stir in the city. The charges are not without: violation of the Alternative Practitioner Act, grievous bodily harm and commercial fraud. This is not the first time that Sibel C. has been in the headlines in connection with illegal beauty treatments. She has already been in the dock in the past and received a suspended sentence. As the MOPO reports, the trial will continue on Tuesday after several adjournments and she is now facing more severe consequences.
The allegations relate to her activities in a beauty salon in Ottensen, where she illegally offered 39 customers hyaluronic acid injections in the facial area between 2020 and February 2023. She neither had the necessary license nor was she medically trained for it. Her marketing activities on Instagram seem to have fallen on fertile ground, as she was able to earn around 10,000 euros during this time. But the results were often anything but pretty: many women suffered from pain, swelling and sometimes unsuccessful beauty procedures. The suspicion that she continued to commit crimes even after her conviction led to her being temporarily detained.
After she was available
In November 2023, Sibel C. received a two-year suspended prison sentence and must also pay a fine of 10,219 euros to the state treasury. However, she and the public prosecutor's office have appealed the verdict, so the verdict is not yet final. Despite these circumstances, there were reports that she continued to operate illegally, in one case having the lips of three other clients injected five times, with the treatments occurring on November 19, 2024. These new charges will also be part of the upcoming trial.
But what exactly is the problem with these interventions? As in Jura fox is explained, the legal framework is Section 224 of the Criminal Code, which deals with grievous bodily harm. In this context, the syringe used can be classified as a dangerous tool, especially if it is used by non-medically trained personnel in the sensitive facial area. Caution is clearly required here.
The safety of hyaluronic treatments
And what about the risks of such treatments? According to that Paracelsus Magazine, wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid are part of aesthetic medicine, which is subject to strict legal regulations. Only qualified alternative practitioners and doctors are authorized to carry out such procedures. In this case, Sibel C. not only exceeded the law, but also failed to adequately inform its customers about the possible risks. Complications such as swelling, hematomas or even more serious consequences are entirely possible, especially if specialist expertise is lacking.
A clear appeal goes out to consumers: keep your eyes open when choosing a service provider! The unsafe conditions and the legalization of the professional field of aesthetic medicine practitioners will continue to be discussed in the future. What will happen next with Sibel C. and her trial remains to be seen. One thing is clear: Hamburg's cosmetic surgery scene urgently needs to be better regulated.
