A disturbing incident occurred in Hamburg's city park on the evening of June 22, 2025. At a gathering of thousands of people who were enjoying the beautiful weather in temperatures of more than 20 degrees, a fight broke out among around 20 young people shortly after 10 p.m. The police were alerted and arrived with a large contingent of more than 30 patrol cars as well as hundreds of riot police to deal with the situation, reports NDR.

A 17-year-old teenager was seriously injured in this altercation. He was believed to have been attacked with a knife and was immediately taken to hospital where he had to be treated. The condition of the injured teenager is currently unclear. Police were able to arrest a 19-year-old suspected attacker on site. Another man was also arrested after attacking a patrol officer with a baton. Fortunately, the police officer was able to continue working despite being hit, according to N-TV.

Eviction and investigations

The entire meadow between the planetarium and the city park lake had to be cleared, while investigations at the crime scene were carried out under tape and light poles well into the night. It is important for the police to clarify the background to the altercation, which is still unclear.

The increase in youth violence in Germany has been a serious issue for some time. According to a current publication of police crime statistics for 2024, youth crime, particularly violent crimes, has increased significantly. The President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, Holger Münch, emphasized that the reasons for this cannot only be found in the catch-up effects after the corona pandemic.
