On Saturday evening, June 22, 2025, a shocking incident occurred in Hamburg-Winterhude that kept the city in suspense. At around 10:30 p.m., an argument between a 19-year-old perpetrator and a 15-year-old provocateur escalated, starting with a punch in the face. The tragedy of it? Without warning, the 19-year-old stabbed an uninvolved 17-year-old with a knife who was not involved in the argument and now suffered life-threatening injuries. The Homicide Squad of the State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation and is currently looking for additional witnesses to shed light on this brutal attack.

Just a month earlier, on May 23, 2025, another dramatic knife attack occurred at Hamburg Central Station. A 39-year-old woman stabbed wildly and injured 18 people, including four with life-threatening injuries. Here, too, the murder squad had to investigate, although the police did not assume a political motive, but rather examined a possible psychological emergency of the perpetrator. These incidents highlight the growing problem of violent knife crime in the city. According to Statista, there was a significant increase in knife attacks in Hamburg from 2019 to 2024, which increases the pressure on the police to act.

What is also frightening is the fact that Hamburg Central Station has been a weapons ban zone since October 2023, where it is forbidden to carry knives with a blade length of more than four centimeters.
