Eimsbüttel: 60-year-old convicted-shocking nude photo affair!

In a sensational case, the Hamburg District Court convicted a 60-year-old man from Eimsbüttel who contacted a 16-year-old via a quiz app. The convict pretended to be a woman and manipulated the young people in such a way that she fell in love with this fictional person. Over a period of two years, the youngsters sent a total of 157 intimate pictures and videos to the accused, such as T-Online reports . When the 16-year-old stopped contact in September 2021, the man sent the pictures to her parents, her employer and neighbors.

The court sentenced him to a probation penalty of one year and six months because of the procurement of youth pornographic content and re -enactment. It was mitigating that the man was not convicted and the acts confessed. His deeds had considerable influences on the development of young people and shaked their living environment. However, the judgment is not yet final.

The dangers of the internet

This case makes a highlight of a much bigger problem: the sexual harassment of young people on the Internet. A current study shows that 38% of young people have already been confronted online with sexual harassment. It is particularly alarming that 10% indicate that it is often or very often affected. The survey, carried out by the Institute for Youth Culture Research on behalf of the ÖIAT and ISPA, refers to 405 young people between the ages of 11 and 17 and was carried out in October 2024. More information can be found on Saferternet.at and online security.gv.at

The attacks take place especially in social networks and messengers. 28% are affected by 11 to 14 year olds, and the number increases to 51% for 15 to 17 year olds. The study also shows that 42% of the respondents have experienced that nude photos were forwarded without consent. And even if 14% of the young people themselves sent nude pictures, 50% believe that the victims themselves are to blame if these pictures are spread further.

need for comprehensive information

The data are alarming and show that there is an urgent need for reconnaissance measures, especially for female young people. Schools are responsible for providing more information and prevention workshops. Saferternet.at offers materials and workshops, while the organization "Rat on Wire" provides free online and telephone advice for children and young people.

Overall, 61% of the girls surveyed and 46% of the boys would like more information to protect against attacks. These results clarify that parents and accompanying persons must also be sensitized in order to sharpen the awareness of the risks lurking on the Internet.

The events around the 60-year-old man from Hamburg are not just an isolated case. They reflect a major social problem. It is important that those affected do not be ashamed, but share their experiences to warn and protect others. Ultimately, it is up to all of us to create a safe space for our youth and to ensure the necessary protection in the digital world.
