Something is happening in Hamburg when it comes to security. The number of crimes fell in the first half of 2025. What is particularly noticeable is the decline in street robbery and store robberies, which fell by 13 and 19 percent respectively. Overall, violent crime fell by around 7 percent to around 4,200 cases.
However, there was also an increase in reports of rape or sexual assault to 171 cases, which corresponds to an increase of 22 percent. This shows that, despite the general statistics, there is a need for action in certain areas. A positive aspect is the decline in drug-related crimes by more than a third, which could be due, among other things, to the partial legalization of cannabis.

In addition, the number of shopliftings rose by 38.5 percent. Within the city, St. Georg was particularly affected, where 465 robbery offenses and an increase in grievous bodily harm (+22 percent) were recorded.
Against the background of these figures, it is remarkable that, according to the people of Department of the Interior and Sport the number of crimes in Hamburg fell by 4 percent in 2024. Accordingly, 224,913 crimes were recorded, which corresponds to a decrease of 9,328 cases compared to the previous year. It should not be forgotten that the clearance rate is still 47.9 percent and therefore just below the previous year's figure.
