Boy Gobert Prize 2025: Payam Yazdani impresses at the Thalia Theater!
On December 8, 2025, Payam Yazdani was awarded the coveted Boy Gobert Award. The 10,000 euro prize, which has been awarded to talented young actors for over 40 years, created a festive atmosphere in the Thalia Theater. Eva Nemela, board member of the Körber Foundation, presented the prize, while Klaus Schumacher, artistic director of the Junges Schauspielhaus, gave a moving laudatory speech. In their speeches, Thalia director Sonja Anders, Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, and Catrin Striebeck, chairwoman of the jury, also praised Yazdani's acting talent.
Yazdani, who was born and raised in Hamburg, was particularly impressive with his performances at the Junges Schauspielhaus. He was a member of the ensemble there until summer 2025 and will be seen in the ensemble of the Schauspielhaus Bochum from autumn 2025, while at the same time continuing to appear as a guest at the Junge Schauspielhaus. He began his acting career as part of a theater group at school, which ultimately led him to acting training at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he was even awarded a solo prize.
From “Krabat” to “Out of Nowhere”
Yazdani played his first leading role in the production of “Krabat”. He is currently delighting audiences in the adaptation of Fatih Akin's film “Out of Nothing,” which deals with the NSU murders. Furthermore, he is also known as an actor in the series “The Discounters” where he plays the role of Jonas, which brought him additional popularity.
The journey to Bochum was an exciting turn in his career. Yazdani received a call from the chief dramaturge of the Schauspielhaus Bochum just as he was still on stage in Hamburg. He now commutes between Bochum and his hometown of Hamburg and brings a breath of fresh air to the theater landscape of both cities with his acting skills.
A big cheers to Payam Yazdani! The awarding of the Boy Gobert Prize once again underlines how important it is to support emerging talent and give them the opportunity to assert themselves in the world of theater. The Hamburg cultural scene can look forward to another brilliant career!
