The Star Hours Festival: Music meets astronomy in Bergedorf!

A very special event is taking place in Hamburg-Bergedorf these days: this Star Hours Festival. Next Friday, July 11, 2025, the historic Hamburg observatory will open its doors for a weekend full of music and science. Since its premiere in summer 2023, the festival has developed into a real insider tip in Hamburg's cultural calendar.

The atmosphere at the historic observatory is unique: a variety of musical genres meet the wonders of the universe here. From classical chamber music to Gregorian chants to jazz and electro-pop, there is something for every taste. Particularly noteworthy are artists such as Anahit Vardanyan, Rocket Men and Yousef Kekhia, who will delight the audience with their performances, while regional musicians also play a central role in the program. Hamburg.de reports that the musical performances take place on a total of five stages - both open air and in the observatory's listed rooms.

A celebration for the whole family

But the Sternstunden Festival doesn't just have a lot to offer musically. An extensive scientific program invites guests to learn more about astronomy. The offerings include tours of the historic domed buildings, exciting lectures on current research topics and the opportunity to look through telescopes yourself when the weather is clear. Especially for young explorers, there is an exciting Star Hour rally and children's concerts that will amaze you.

The organizers have set themselves the goal of combining science and music and creating a space for encounters. The entire event is organized on a voluntary basis by students and volunteers from the University Music Hamburg and the Hamburg Observatory. The ticket prices are low-threshold so that everyone has the opportunity to take part in this cultural highlight - day and combination tickets are available from 10 euros, with reduced prices starting at 7 euros. This means that the festival is also financially accessible to everyone.

Astronomical highlights in July

If you fancy some astronomical highlights, you should also keep an eye on the night sky during the festival. Remarkable celestial events are coming up in July 2025 that could amaze visitors. These are expected to be the best viewing conditions to enjoy the beauty of the night sky. It will be particularly exciting on July 16th, when Venice is at its highest point of visibility. For those interested in astronomy, the event offers a double opportunity to enjoy the sky.

A total of around 1,500 guests are expected to experience the connection between music and astronomy up close. After the success of its first two years, the Sternstunden Festival has become an integral part of Hamburg's cultural scene and attracts not only locals but also visitors from all over the region.

A weekend full of sounds and stars – that’s what it is Star Hours Festival! Be there and experience an unforgettable mix of music, science and encounters.
