S1 closure at the weekend: replacement buses between Wedel and Othmarschen!

Next weekend, November 29th and 30th, there will be some changes on the S-Bahn lines that will affect commuters and travelers. In particular, passengers on the S1 between Wedel and Othmarschen can expect a change: buses will be used instead of the usual S-Bahn. This measure is necessary to carry out necessary maintenance work. The changeover begins on Saturday from around 7 a.m. and lasts until Sunday at 11 a.m. Passengers can then travel directly from Othmarschen to the city center again, so that the connection to more central locations can be quickly restored. Fink Hamburg provides details on this.

But that's not all that currently affects Hamburg's transport companies. The section between Wedel and Klein Flottbek will remain closed until Sunday, November 30th, until around 8 p.m. To ensure that travelers can still get to their destination, two replacement bus lines are offered:

Replacement measures

Passengers traveling in Sülldorf have the option of transferring between buses. Please note that the change can increase travel time by up to 20 minutes. Current information about the routes of these replacement buses can be found on Deutsche Bahn notices.

These changes come in a context where there are already various closures and adjustments in Hamburg's transport infrastructure. So reported hamburg.de about further closures affecting the U1 subway line between Berne and Volksdorf. This has been out of operation since October 13, 2025 until November 30, 2025 and will also be replaced by buses. From October 20th to 29th, the routes between Berne and Hoisbüttel and between Volksdorf and Buchenkamp were also extended. What's particularly interesting here is that the Meßberg subway station is now barrier-free accessible after extensive construction work. New elevators and a fully elevated platform are in operation here.

Particular attention should also be paid to the S-Bahn S1, S2 and S5. Access at Berliner Tor is restricted until December 14, 2025, which may pose additional challenges for some travelers. There is accessibility between the subway and S-Bahn lines, but there is no continuous access from the street.

It is advisable for all Hamburg residents to pay close attention to current traffic data over the next few days and weeks in order to avoid surprises when it comes to travel time. Whether it's a replacement bus or local transport, good planning makes it easier to get the most out of Hamburg's transport network.
